So Much To Tell

Hm, maybe I should break this up into several posts…its been a busy few weeks.

For one, the 5 of us have figured out that besides the Fleetwood Mac Music, we can also pump out some pretty amazing Top 40 Covers.  Some venues have been asking, can you do more than Fleetwood Mac?  and the answer is YES!  Several band meetings have transpired and we have been trying to decide if we do everything under the name Little Lies Band, or if we should come up with a new name.  New Name won out, since “Little Lies” came from a Fleetwood Mac song.  Blah blah blah…let me see if I can make a long story a little longer………….

OK, kept you in suspense long enough.  The Top 40 Cover portion of our act is now called BIG TRUTH.  (Get it, BIG TRUTH and Little Lies Band?  Here’s how it looks on paper:

Sorry, You’re Stuck With Me

I am the social media , marketing and booking person in the band.  Everyone else has day jobs.

Piece of cake right?

Well, whether it is or not is not the point of this post.  The point is, you are stuck with me.  You get to hear my POV…Little Stevie.

Lucky YOU! :)

Anyway, as the marketing person my days are spent knocking on virtual doors, promoting gigs, creating interest, building fan base, keeping the schedule for 5 band members, and posting crazy blog stories. ;)

OH!!!  So, this is what I created a few days ago.  It’s a QR Code, you take a picture of it with your Smart Phone (app needed I assume) and it takes you to our website.  LOVE IT!  (I don’t know why I felt the need to explain that, everyone knows what these are)

Also, I also just booked another amazing gig that we are super excited about.  Temecula’s Rod Run on March 10th…Woooo Hooooo!  This is a fantastic Classic Car Show held annually in Old Town Temecula.  C’mon out, bring the kiddies and enjoy the beautiful Southern California weather.  It’s sure to be a BLAST!  Saturday, March 10th – ALL DAY EVENT – Little Lies Band will be performing on the main stage somewhere between 1 and 3pm.

Tonight’s show is at Trevi Entertainment Center…doors open at 8pm.  Bring the kids for a night of Family Fun!  Bowling, Video Games and Pizza…FUN FOR ALL!

OK, Loves to all…gotta go get my Stevie on.

Falling in Love With a Song

Rehearsal is the hardest part for me.  (and yes, I know, its all about ME)  I hate people (singers) who can just open their mouths and all this amazing-ness falls out.  For me, it is work.  Hit the notes, don’t be flat, remember the words, keep the timing…and look fantastic doing it, damn it!  Its a process.

The band will tell you, I can be grumpy and impatient in rehearsal.  Critisism?  Can’t handle it.  I KNOW it sounded wrong, please don’t point it out.  hahaha  (laughing at myself here)  My inner child is literally splattered on the rehearsal floor, devastated one more time that perfection has eluded me.  (that’s right inner child, kick and scream, kick and scream)

After rehearsal, however…the next step in the process is to DREAM about the music.  My soul programs the lyrics and the melody while I am (ahem) sleeping.  I wake up singing (Saraaaaahhhhh, ahhhhhahhhh) and that’s how I know the song is now inside of me.

Step three is to sing badly.  My kids will tell you.

After learning a song, I walk around the house purposely singing it poorly.  Wail at the top of my lungs off-key.  Make gravelly noises, act like Elmer Fudd and pretend the notes are out of my range.  The inner child once again regaining her spirit of fun and playfulness.

After that…there is one more step.  Occasionally this is the forgotten step.  Sometimes I watch video of myself, and I cringe.  I see myself processing on stage.  ”Can I hit the note?  HOW do I hit the note?  Oooops, what’s the next verse…” etc.  Then I watch Stevie on DVD…and I know what I am missing.

I have to fall in love with the song.
